Honda Motor Co. said Friday it will build an $800 million assembly plant in Mexico to produce subcompact vehicles for the Mexican and North American markets. The Japanese automaker said the plant is scheduled to begin operation in 2014 with an annual capacity of 200,000 units.

The BMW 330d Coupe has just been made redundant because Alpina, the Buchloe-based tuner, tweaker and BMW bedfellow, has released the D3 Bi-Turbo Coupe. Alpina engineers have taken BMW’s twin-turbo diesel from the 123d, slotted it into the Three Coupe, then tweaked it to produce 211bhp. The result is an engine that produces more horsepower per litre than any other BMW or Alpina road car, they say.

Aston Martin has confirmed it will once again make a Lagonda super-saloon - but only for Middle Eastern markets. The details of Aston’s secret plans to resurrect its luxurious nameplate for a small production run of luxury saloons were revealed in the July 2014 issue of CAR following our spy photographer captured a wedgy four-door saloon testing on the roads around Aston Martin’s Gaydon HQ in Warwickshire. The mule we snapped, like the production car set to arrive in 2015, is based on Aston’s familiar VH architecture that underpins the four-door Aston Martin Rapide.
